As the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) continues to expand across public safety, as well as their use cases, operators who may have little to no experience in coordinating the safe movements of ground units are being put in these situations through the use of UAS as the eye in the sky.  In this session we will discuss the need for training in effective communication skills between UAS teams and ground units to safely move personnel into potentially dangerous locations utilizing an aerial vantage point. This session will discuss the roles of the UAS team members and how they should communicate with each other to ensure airspace safety when multiple aircraft are working the same scene. UAS technology has become an excellent resource in public safety operations, however UAS personnel must understand their vital role in ensuring the safety of ground officers when guiding them towards dangerous suspects.
