AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd) is a native of North-Western Nigeria, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Language Arts, Diploma in Law Criminal Justice Administration (CJA), a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies (MIRSS) and a Master’s in Law and Criminal Justice (MLC).
In 1990, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, where he held sway as the head of National Central Bureau (INTERPOL).
He contested and won the position of Vice President INTERPOL as a member of INTERPOL Executive Committee from November 2021 to November 2024. AIG GARBA BABA UMAR (Rtd) has attended several professional courses, Seminars and workshops both within and outside Nigeria. The AIG has utilized his wealth of experience largely in operations, investigations and his intelligence network in high profile cases.
He is a recipient of many certificates of Commendations and Awards for bravery, hard work and Selfless Service, and has travelled all over the world. He holds Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy and is a Counter Terrorism Expert and Intelligence Analyst
